I won the bronze prize for my submission to this contest. Upon further reflection, however, I would like to make some revisions to this video. First, I would like to show these pictures when I say “despite tragic historic events”. These images would further drive home the idea that African Americans and Koreans share tragic histories….

Campus
Feeling good after finding money and receiving Peppero cookies from a student, Subin Choi, I took a walk around campus with my iPad mini. I have been thinking about writing more in my blog and today is the first day of doing just that. I am inspired to write.
Peppero Day 2013
November 11th is a special day in Korea. The numbers 11/11 remind Koreans of the long cookie snacks called pepero. This isn’t a tradition that dates back hundreds of years though. It actually began sometime in the 80’s or 90’s. I received my pepero from a student and it made my day.
P.I.M.P. (Paper in My Pocket)
Before rising from bed this morning my left palm began to itch. I have heard that this is a sign that one may receive money. I checked my bank accounts via internet banking websites from my bed. Nothing. Later, I got up, showered, shaved, ate breakfast and got dressed. While getting dressed I reached into…
Alone with My Thoughts
It was Wednesday, October 22nd at 9:40pm when I began to write this post. I was alone in the office, room 218, which is shared with other professors and instructors, at Yeungnam University’s Foreign Language Institute. At this hour there are few if any other people roaming the halls. It’s midterm week. I just finished…
Dave Chappelle Dream
I went to sleep the other day and had another dream. I was in a living room talking to six people. I began to go into detail about my experiences in Korea. The group of people I was talking to began to grow. The initial group of six had moved from sitting on the couches…
Jeju
It’s always a delight to spend some time on Jeju Island with my friend, Yunhee.
Three Years Later
I’ve taught at the same university over the past three years. During that time I had to struggle to improve my student evaluations. That is, the students gave me low scores. Over the last year, I changed my classroom procedures to improve my evaluations. Did that have an effect? Yes, it did. My evaluations finally showed…
50 Push-ups
My challenge is to do fifty push-ups each day for an indefinite number of days. Today was the first day of this challenge. I wasn’t able to do fifty push-ups straight through. After a week or so I think I will be able to do it. Today I was able to do twenty straight. Cheers!
Friday Night, 2012
On Friday I went downtown to enjoy the evening with some friends. I was spotted by a photographer and he took a few photos of me. It’s for a spread about foreigners who live in Korea. He said it was for a college publication. It was a nice way to welcome the following week —…
How about Them Apples?
The Chuseok holiday ended on Monday, but the fun didn’t stop. Last week I met a friend and spent time with her on my day off. We sang Karaoke, and she showed me around downtown. We hung out all night downtown. Finally, she and I went to a restaurant where we ate curdled blood soup….
Guryongpo
Over the weekend, my colleague, Rochelle, and I went to Pohang. Here are photos of one of the most attractive beaches in Pohang, Guryongpo. This was a Chuseok holiday trip. While in Pohang we also visited some friends at Whistler bar.
