JESUS IN THE QUR’AN (Part One by Ahmad Maceo Eldridge Cleaver)

I regret that I am finally posting his words only after learning of his passing today.  In January 2018, I contacted my former colleagues in an attempt to publish their work at my site to help them gain exposure and drive traffic to my website. I was blessed to have worked alongside accomplished people who…

Edited by Victoria Bae

By Far, 2017…

By far my most adventurous year to date has been 2017. I traveled to 17 new countries that year. Here’s a look back on the people I met and the places I visited. Sadly, I also lost my cousin that year.

Just Dates?

1979: I was born on the same day, October 9, that historians agree Hanguel, the Korean language, was proclaimed in 1446, which was also the day on which Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara de la Serna was assassinated by Bolivian agents working under the order of the US CIA, in 1967. 1985: I took my first Tae…

I Forgot Where I Am

Saudi Arabia is unique in that it currently restricts women from driving, and limits their movement in public places without a male custodian. In Saudi Arabia, usually at prayer time stores close their doors and draw the blinds and cease operation. Restaurants, however, allow diners to eat, but they stop taking orders and serving food….

2017 … So Far

I had been working in Dammam, Saudi Arabia since August 2016. I hadn’t been to the capital city, Riyadh, yet. However, things soon changed for me. Dammam is only a thirty minute car ride from Bahrain. On weekends I made my way to Bahrain’s capital city, Manama.   In late January I took a trip…

A Quik Story

I awoke and did what I usually do which is type ‘Dj Quik’ into my iTunes app to listen to some of his music. I was pleasantly surprised to see that he released new music — the Rosecrans LP. Now I am poolside reading a book and intermittently putting the book down to post to…

Sons of The Desert

Scroll through these photos to experience the trip I took to the Edge of The World on Inauguration Day, Friday, January 20, 2017. My train was to depart at 8:35am. When I arrived early to the train station I was ushered directly to the train which was surprising because I was allowed to board nearly half…

3 Reasons to Love Saudi Arabia

1. Supermarkets Bristol Farms, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, a farmer’s market and Target would have to combine forces to compare with the Sueprmarkets on steriods in Saudi Arabia. The international variety of goods is stunning. The choices of fruit, vegetables, juices, and meats are staggering. Oh! The cheeses and olives! 2. Gas It’s cheap! I think…

Saudi Like Me

Being that it is my first time traveling to this part of the world, I had no idea what I was in for. Intimidated is an understatement for what my initial emotion was while I stood in the customs line at King Fahd International Airport. It didn’t help that the customs official, a young Saudi man,…

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

As I lay in bed recounting the day’s events, I am also thinking of tomorrow’s challenges. Those challenges make me feel excited and curious, but also slightly apprehensive. As for today, it is the beginning of my new journey in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Counting my blessings seems appropriate here. 1) I am alive….

Leaving My Native Land

This journal entry sheds a little light on moving to the Middle East. Luckily, I initiated the application process in January — a time when I was on vacation from my assistant professorship in Korea. It wasn’t until two days before my return to Korea in February that I recieved word that I wa hired….
